With over 400 people in the audience and 32 contestants, this year’s buzzing Miss Universe Cork final at the Rochestown Park Hotel, raised the bar beyond all previous years.

The event was hosted by Lockdown’s Emer O’Mahony and RedFM’s Dave Mac and the 9 strong judging panel chose Monkstown student at UCC, Nicola Meldrum as this year’s worthy winner. Special guest on the night was former Miss Universe Ireland Rozanna Purcell who shone in a stunning evening gown from The Dress Bar. All finalists had their hair done by Origin Hair Design, their makeup topped up by the team from MAC at Brown Thomas and Michel Jewellers made an exquisite new crown for the winner to the value of €2500. Nicola wins a 1 year modelling contract at the Lockdown Agency, Personal Training, Gym Membership and Nutritional advice for the year from Educo Gym, a €500 shopping spree at Opera Lane with stylist Natasha Crowley, evening wear for her events all year from The Dress Bar, makeup all year by MAC at Brown Thomas, hair all year by Origin Hair Design and many more fab perks.

There is nothing our models enjoy more than playing dress up in wedding dresses, so yesterday’s two shows at the sunny Oriel House Hotel were a treat of a show to hit the runway in. The audience were treated to expert advise from an array of wedding vendors, a tour of the hotels two beautifully decorated function rooms, fed with magnificent food and treats and the two fashion shows exhibited bridal, mother of the bride, bridesmaid and guest wear from Memories Bridal, Diamond Bridal, The Dress Bar and Paper Dolls Boutique. The hotel offered a recession busting Why Wait package for only €49 per person for your special day, inclusive of His & Hers gym membership for 6 months and a trip to the Oriel Spa to de-stress for the couple in advance of their big day.

We were delighted to be asked to host a show at a very stylish fundraiser in aid of the Jack & Jill Foundation last week. The event took place at the Castle in Glanmire, which was transformed into a super stylish venue for the sold out show. The event was hosted by Sinead Sheppard and Emer O’Mahony with new season collections hitting the runway from an array of Cork boutiques and GAA star Tomas Mulcahy ran the auction at the end of the night. A big thank you to Caroline Corcoran, Lorraine O’Neill & the team at The Castle for involving us in such a superbly run night for a super cause xo

We had the chance this week to attend the Pia Michi Ball at the Millenium Hotel in Mayfair in London to view their new collection and we weren’t disappointed! Stunning couture gowns hit the runway and we partied with lots of fun people in entertainment and fashion in the UK. We have all earmarked dresses from the new Pia Michi collection so can’t wait for The Dress Bar to get the new collection in for all our 2013 events! Thanks to all the girls for such a fun trip full of great chats, glamour and bubbles…already looking forward to the next trip xo

The Spring Network event was hosted by former Network Ireland Business Woman of the Year, Pamela Morrissey and her team at Sobe Brown in Cork city last night. Maura Derrane hosted proceedings while Pamela & her team carried out tips and demos for all in attendance. Roisin Hurley from MAC offered fashionable tips on makeup application and some key new season looks. Lockdown Models Ruth, Amanda and Amelia modelled for the event. Amongst the packed venue of ladies enjoying in the hair tips, wine and food from Electric, Cork were RSVP Editor Paula Linehan, President of Network Cork & Director of Fuzion PR Deirdre Waldron, Lockdown Directors & newlyweds Emer O’Mahony & Vivienne McCarthy, photographer Samantha Hunt, stylist Dee Kelly Morgan and award winning Irish makeup artist Kate Noonan. Kate, along with Pat Walker and Sobe Brown hair stylist Aisling O’Sullivan and her colleagues in the salon launched their ‘SOBENAKED’ campaign photos which had appeared in that day’s Irish Mirror and Evening Echo.

Sobe also launched their ‘Backstage Dry Styling Salon’, a genuis idea of 15minute appointments to ‘spruce up’ your hair. Pop in with 100% dry hair and have your fringe trimmed, your blowdry spruced up or your falling hair pinned or a quick updo…all for only €12.50.

She may have moved to London this month to grow her rising career as an international model but Cork native Kellie Forde has confirmed she will fly home to sit on the Miss Universe Cork judging panel for the March 24th final, alongside Roz Purcell and other top names in Irish fashion. Kellie, who was a Miss Cork contestant herself at the start of her career will act as judge and mentor for the girls and tells us why she thinks it’s important for shy and quiet girls to take the leap and enter:

”The Miss Universe Cork comp is a fantastic way to boost your confidence and public speaking skills. It is also a great platform to get your face out there if you want to pursue a career in modelling or presenting. If anything, it’s a great character building experience and way to meet new friends.

In my opinion, it’s usually the girl that enters the competition with the least experience and confidence that walks away gaining the most. I would heavily encourage any girls lacking in self confidence to enter. What’s more empowering than getting up there in front of an audience, having your voice heard, doing your thing and looking fabulous. By overcoming these obstacles in life, you evolve as a person. Its a once in a lifetime chance and I would encourage all girls out there to enter!”

Approached by a London & Paris agency in Ireland at only 14 years of age, Simone came to Lockdown in 2012 wanting to learn the ropes at home in Ireland while finishing school and putting her studies & love of dancing first. Miss Universe Cork 2013 search begins

Leading the judging panel again this year is former Miss Universe Ireland Rozanna Purcell

Open auditions will commence next Sunday at 4pm at the River Lee Hotel to find the cities next top model for 2013. The Miss Universe Cork pageant is produced & run by ‘Most Influential Model Agency in Ireland’ winners Lockdown and their many years experience behind Cork cities biggest and most successful fashion events has made this annual pageant the most ‘du jour’ pageant in Cork. Each year an unknown, inexperienced girl is plucked from 30 finalists and trained by agency Directors Vivienne Kelly & Emer O’Sullivan (who have 14 years modelling experience each) to represent Cork at Andrea Roche’s Miss Universe Ireland.

The winning girl will also win, amongst a host of fantastic prizes, a lucrative 12 month modelling contract. The winner will also benefit from head to toe styling free of charge for all events, shoots & shows during their year’s rein. Sounds like every young girls dream eh!

The Lockdown run pageant has been the launchpad for many girls who are now nationally & internationally successful models, eg, Kellie Forde (BINTM), Etaoin ni hAilpin, Mairead O’Farrell, Anita O’Brien, Katriona O’Mahony to name but a few.

Leading the panel of celebrity mentors & judges again this year is Roz Purcell, the most successful Miss Universe Ireland to date who was signed by Donald Trump in the USA. Roz has become one of our countries most successful models & TV personalities and the winner will benefit hugely from her as a mentor in the process. The show will be hosted by former Model & Presenter Emer O’Sullivan and stay tuned for weekly updates about a special guest presenter with Emer, special guest judges…and pictures of finalists!

Entrants need no previous experience as all training will be provided. Entrants must be aged between 17-23. Entrants apply by emailing: info@lockdown.ie. The glitzy final will take place on Sunday March 24th at The Rochestown Park Hotel & tickets can be reserved through the Lockdown office now.

In keeping with her busy modelling career since appearing on Britain & Ireland’s Next Top Model, Kellie flew to sunny, sexy Dubai to model with other top European models in a runway show on a ship in front of some of the most influential faces in fashion. CFW makes history showcasing local design & Irish business

CFW 2012 made the history books this month showcasing the biggest ever amount of collections from local fashion designers, many of whom are working with top fashion houses in Europe & America. CFW Directors Vivienne Kelly & Emer O’Sullivan produced a full week of events to truly celebrate the talent that has come out of southern Ireland, while also celebrating all that encompasses fashion through independent stylists, photographers, makeup artists, hair stylists and independently owned businesses.
